A Daughter's Inheritance

Poem

Born second to my brother

My “rightful” place

Fathers beam more proudly

Over their boys than girls

Differences in gender correlate to disparate childhoods

Brothers are mentored to dream

Sisters are coached for conjugality

Nothing is ever meant for a woman alone

Including her ambition
